A look back at Harry's first year!

Well, allow me to formally introduce myself here... My name is Stephanie. I am dreading saying this, but sadly I am 27 years old! Three years until I am over the hill... Sorry quarter life crisis here. *Sigh*

Anyways, I began my blog a little after my son turned a year old. I love to write, and I hope everyone enjoys reading it. My son's name is Harry Clarence Northway, and he turned a year old on December 11th, 2013! Yay! It has been one crazy year with him...

My pregnancy was too easy, and my labor was traumatic. (I'll get to that later.) His first year made the labor worth every second.

Here is a recap of the past year:

Newborn- (December 2012)
This was tough. Harry didn't like to sleep, and he breastfed all day and night nonstop. Even though he didn't like to sleep, he was a very happy baby. Harry did have great head and neck control right from birth, and by day 4, he could support his head without any assistance or help! Yeah!!! He even grabbed a rattle on his own at 3 weeks!!

One Month- (January 2013)
By the time Harry was a month old, he was already babbling, laughing, smiling, playing with toys, and rolling over from his stomach to back!! He could even scoot himself forward a little bit while on his stomach! He was so happy all the time too. He even gained 4 lbs 3 oz in one month!!! Wow!!!

Two Months- (February 2013)
I went back to work part time for a family I used to nanny for last year. Harry came with me and had lots of fun! He was such a happy baby all the time, but he was constantly eating! Harry was now able balance himself while standing! Scott and I also went out on our first date since Harry was born this month.

Three Months- (March 2013)
Harry got his first cold this month, and he had a terrible cough with it. He had to have breathing treatments for his cough for the next month! Yikes! This month was also exciting because he could sit up without any support, he rolled over from his back to stomach, said "hi", and learned how to play peek-a-boo!! He did, however, develop stranger anxiety and began to understand the concept of object permanence already!! Scott and I also took Harry to the Ford Museum, and he loved looking at the lights and cars.

Four Months- (April 2013)
I began my full time job as a nanny for a little boy two months older than Harry. This was another exciting month for Harry because he began to army crawl!!! He was such a strong baby!!! He loved to play with cars, listen to music, and read stories. Harry was always talking too!!! I began teaching Harry sign language, which he got the hang of very quickly. He knew and could use the following signs already: more, all done, play, bed, and happy.

Five Months- (May 2013)
Whew... Harry officially grasped the concept of object permanence, and got over his stranger anxiety. (Yes, he understood the concept of object permanence VERY early.) Harry also started eating solids once a day this month, and he was not a picky eater! He was still army crawling, but he was able to get on all fours and into the crawling position! Yeah!! We also took Harry to his first Tiger game.

Six Months- (June 2013)
WOW!!! So many changes this month!! Harry started to crawling!!!!!!! He also learned how to pull up to stand, get in and out of the sitting position by himself, and walk holding onto furniture!!! He said too very important words which were daddy and mama. This was a busy month of hitting milestones and enjoying summer. Harry also received a Sophie Giraffe from us.

Seven Months- (July 2013)
Harry mastered crawling!!! He loved summer time too. We swam in his baby pool, played outside, ate Popsicles, had BBQs, went to the park, and so much more!! He even learned a trick and began to crawl backwards off the couch. Yikes!! He was always getting into trouble too. Harry also got his first 2 teeth this month.

Eight Months- (August 2013)
What another exciting month!! We went camping, and Harry loved it. We slept outside and everything. Harry even swam in Lake Michigan! It was a little cold though. Harry also climbed out of his crib!!!!!! It was quite a scary moment for me, but he was completely fine. Harry was still walking holding onto furniture and his walker. Harry also knew about 10 words and 15 signs (sign language).

Nine Months- (September 2013)
Harry got his two front teeth!! We went to Belle Isle for one last taste of summer, and we also went apple picking this month. Harry and Michael started "school" as I began to implement a toddler curriculum during the day with circle time, lessons, and art projects. Harry also learned some colors this month: blue, black, yellow, and red.

Ten Months- (October 2013)
Confirmed!! Harry has a moderate allergy to peanuts!!!!! So sad. We now carry an Epi-Pen with us at all times. Harry had his first Halloween, but it rained. He dress up as a cow though! So cute! Harry was always happy and cheerful. He loved to give hugs and kisses and even kissed his stuffed animals.

Eleven Months- (November 2013)
Harry suddenly became a picky eater! Oh no! He did enjoy his first Thanksgiving though. He started balancing himself without holding onto anything. His new food obsessions were goldfish crackers and plain yogurt. There was never a dull moment with Harry this month either! He drank toilet water, the dog's water, ate dog food, and dryer lint!!

Twelve Months- (December 2013)
WOW!!!!! We made it a year!!!! It was one wild ride, and I loved it!!!!!! Harry still was not sleeping through the night, but he was not ready. He was still breastfeeding and going strong. So proud!!

His birthday party was awesome. About 45 people came to share the special day with us. We were blessed. Harry did not want his cake which surprised everyone. He was mad about it too!!!

At 12 months, Harry knew about 50 words and 50 signs (sign language)!!!!!! GO HARRY!!!!!!!!! Such a smart kid!!!!

Harry was not walking on his own yet, which really surprised me considering he can RUN with a walker. Silly kid.

It was a GREAT first year! I enjoyed every minute of it. He is amazing!!
